yellow # 5 were more prone to hyperactivity. Researchers
theorize that it can also contribute to the intensity of
hyperactivity in people with ADHD. Another study connected
yellow # 5 to ADHD when researchers found that this dye affects
nerve cells and causes people to not be able to think clearly,
learn well, remember things and reason.
Artificial food colorings contain arsenic, benzidine, lead and
mercury, which are all hazardous to health. Mercury and lead can
both affect mental development and arsenic can lead to confusion
and headache, and place a person at a higher risk of developing
certain cancers.
ADHD people may be more prone to a deficiency in zinc when they
consume food colorings, because they tend to lose zinc faster
than those who do not have ADHD. When a deficiency in zinc is
developed, the body and mind’s function may be affected. Zinc is
also essential in promoting natural wound healing, blood
clotting, taste and smell and is needed for thyroid, brain, and
immune system functions.
