Citrus & Calendula Soap-A Truly Natural Soap.
You'll find this truly natural citrus soap to be invigorating.
Replenish your skin with natures best and share this truly
natural soap with others as well.
1 lb. melt & pour transparent soap base
1/4 cup calendula petals (dried)
15 drops of yellow food coloring
3/4 tsp. grapefruit essential oil
1/2 tsp. tangerine essential oil
1 Tbsp. melted shea butter (melted separately)
How To Make This Truly Natural Soap:
Melt the soap base, and at the same time, melt the shea butter in a custard cup
placed in a pan of boiling water or in the microwave. Add calendula petals to
melted base, a few drops of yellow food coloring, the essential oil and then
melted shea butter. Try to have this the same temperature as the melt and pour
base. Keep
stirring the soap/shea butter mixture. As it starts to set up, spoon into heart
molds. By spooning, you have more control of how many calendula leaves go
into each mold. This truly natural soap recipe makes 8 heart soaps.
Note: By stirring the soap and shea butter mixture as it cools, the butter will
float to the top and make little circles of butter, which might look like mold
to those that don't know.
This recipe also makes a perfect gift. Your friends and family will
appreciate the gift of a wonderful alternative to soap, which
can be too drying and harsh for the facial skin. That
these gifts came from the heart and your hands makes them even more special.
Packaging and presentation play a predominant role in the gift-giving of
your handmade soaps, salts and lotions. Below are several packaging ideas,
but don’t let this brief list limit your creativity!
Paper is a popular packaging medium because of the variety of papers available.
You can use brown Kraft paper, marbled paper, gift wrap, wallpaper, any kind of
paper you want. Your creativity is the limit! You can use your computer to add
designs and logos to plain paper or you can paint or draw on the paper for an
added personal touch. You can wrap individual bars like a gift and either leave
plain or add extra embellishment by tie with ribbons, cording, raffia or lace.
Cellophane and polypropylene are clear
plastics that can be used as packaging for odd-shaped soaps and scented
soaps. Jute weave washcloths or tulle also make wonderful soap wraps. Fabric
can be wrapped around soap like a gift and tied with a ribbon. Different
fabrics will provide different effects. Corduroy and velour provide a rich,
plush look while silk gives an elegant look. Calico and burlap throw a truly
"rustic" look. The fabric you use depends largely on the truly
natural soap you made.
Sticky labels, round labels and
heavyweight card stock can be used for labeling.
