Stained Glass Soap - A Decorative Soap.
It is an easy to make
decorative soap that is affordable, skin nourishing and is a pampering bath and
body product.
3/4 cup Clear soap (clear soap cubes or clear block soap)
1/4 Soap sheet in a red, blue, yellow and green
Soap scent or essential oil
Craft knife
Cutting board
Ruler
9" x 9" cake pan
To Make This Decorative Soap: Cut red, blue, yellow, and green soap sheets into 1 5/8" x 1 5/8" squares. Cut
these squares diagonally from one corner to the other so you are left with two
triangle pieces from one square. Place pieces together in the bottom of the cake
pan in the pattern and colors you desire. Melt the clear soap in the microwave
for 20-25 seconds on high, then 10 second intervals until completely melted. (May
vary with microwaves). Add 4-5 drops of your favorite soap scent or essential
oil. Allow soap to cool slightly so that will not melt your soap pieces. Pour a
layer of clear soap about 1/4" deep over the pattern, covering all the pieces
completely. Let harden. Cut out shapes with soap cutters of your choice.
Feel free to substitute or add other essential oils, herbs or
salts to personalize your stained glass soap recipe. The recipe can be left without fragrance or
essential oils can be added for therapeutic benefit.
This
decorative soap recipe also makes a perfect
gift. Your friends and family will appreciate the gift of a unique
bath and body products. That this decorative soap gift came from the heart and your hands
makes them even more special. Packaging and presentation play a predominant role
in the gift-giving of your handmade decorative soap. Below are several
packaging ideas, but don’t let this brief list limit your creativity!
Paper is a
popular packaging medium because of the variety of papers available. You can use
brown Kraft paper, marbled paper, gift wrap, wallpaper, any kind of paper you
want. Your creativity is the limit! You can use your computer to add designs and
logos to plain paper or you can paint or draw on the paper for an added personal
touch. You can wrap individual bars of your stained glass soap like a gift and either leave plain or add
extra embellishment by tie with ribbons, cording, raffia or lace.
Cellophane and
polypropylene are clear plastics that can be used as packaging for odd-shaped
soaps and scented soaps. Jute weave washcloths or tulle also make wonderful soap
wraps. Fabric can be wrapped around your decorative soap like a gift and tied with a ribbon.
Different fabrics will provide different effects. Corduroy and velour provide a
rich, plush look while silk gives an elegant look. Calico and burlap throw a
truly "rustic" look. The fabric you use depends largely on the soap you made.
